Default Gas guage slip rings

Just wondered how many brass slip rings you fit I normally fit two but maybe one would be enough . I have found 3 or 4 which does seem overkill

Yup, with a very light coating of oil on them to aid in them slipping.

The reason for added slip rings is so the assembly does not bottom out of the threads and cause fuel leakage. Modern gaskets may not be as thick as the originals.

As Tom Endy implies, use as many brass slip rings as necessary for a proper leak-free fit and function.

It seems with the repo outer rings that at least two brass rings are necessary to secure the nut against the gas tank and the gasket. I've had to use three in some cases before the nut bottomed out securely. I think the repo outer rings are not threaded as much as originals, so they run out of thread before closing up the gap against the gasket.
