Default 1939-48 Master Cylinder Cap

Does anyone know where a 91A-2162-A master cylinder cap can be purchased? The plastic cap that came on the stainless steel sleeved master cylinder I purchased in 2020 for my 1947 5-passenger coupe shattered when I tried to remove it. Have tried numerous on-line vendors. Most of them say out of stock, and the one I found that assured me they had one sent me a 1A-2162 cap (1949-1960) instead. (Previously made the mistake of buying an NOS 1A-2162 cap on eBay.) I even tried buying a complete master cylinder (Dorman M1050) that didn’t come with the same type of plastic cap that broke on me expecting to use the cap. Turned out the metal cap with a 1/2” cap vent machine screw was glued so firmly to the master cylinder it could not be removed even with a cheater bar. How do you even use this thing? All I need is a new cap. Where can I find one?

I don't know about size, but CASCO, the Tbird parts people, sell a metal cap only. This is for a 55-57 TBird - maybe the same size ???

Paul2748, the M/C cap for a 55-57 T-Bird is the 1A-2162-A that a lot of vendors carry.
JayChicago, that link takes you to a M/C cover for the floor.
Randy, yes, that is exactly the part I need. Ford part number 91A-2162-A.
Ford uses the number 2162 even today for the M/C cap, it’s the prefix and suffix that dictate the year and model.

Does anyone know of the Raybestos MFC4073 master cylinder cap is a replacement for the 91A-2162-A cap? It looks the same as the plastic cap that comes on many of the aftermarket master cylinders for the 1939-1948 Fords.

Southside didn’t have one, but, after checking part number exchange lists that suggested the Raybestos MFC4073 might be a replacement, I ordered one. It’s plastic, but it fits.

It is probably that NOS box that jacks the price up.

Well, this thread has been going on for 3 weeks and 16 posts. The guy has followed all of the leads (usually good) that have been suggested here and still has come up empty. Its starting to look to me like this may be one of those parts whose supply that has just inexplicably dried up. If it were me, I'd swallow my pride, buy it and move along with my project.

What surprises me is the absolute lack of used pieces out there. This is not a "wear item", so there have to be a lot out there under benches and in boxes.

There are several different varieties of the cap all the same size and all can replace each other.
