Coupe reveal color?
I'm going to paint my 1930 coupe chicle body and copra upper. I just looked at a coupe on Brent's site of the same color. It appears that the window reveals are the same as upper body color.
Is this correct? Maybe I couldn't see the colors well enough in the pictures. Thanks. |

Re: Coupe reveal color?
Hi Mitch, The reveal's are painted lower body color... So if you are using chicle drab, the revel's are painted that color Greg out west |

Re: Coupe reveal color?
Mitch,
If you are going to use PPG Concept Copra Drab, you should be very careful. The PPG Copra Drab is a gray unlike the MAFCA paint guide color chip which is a brown. Dupont single stage acrylic urethane is the correct color. I had a problem with the PPG Copra Drab on the trim colors on my 28 coupe. Rusty Nelson |

Re: Coupe reveal color?
Mitch you really cannot go by what you see on my site unless you you ask me first. The "Golden Rule" applied on that car. (The (Wo)Man with the Gold, ...Rules.) The car is a early/mid 1930, which means the colors really should have been reversed. His wife did not like that combination. Guess what, ...we reversed them. Painting the reveals were ommited for the same reasons. I might also add that he did not like the Gray Check upholstery and his wife did not care for the Brown Check because "it looked cheap". They settled on the brown mohair because of the woodgrain window mouldings.

Re: Coupe reveal color?
Hi Brent,
My coupe is March '30. In the 1st Repaint Manual it says body Copra, upper Chicle. In the newer Paint Manual and in the JS's it it says either combination of Chicle and Copra. Help. |

Re: Coupe reveal color?
Mitch, you may want to re-read it again. On Page 24 of the 3rd Revision (same as 2nd) it shows Copra Drab was used on the lower Body & Reveals, and Chicle Drab on the upper Body, Belt, & Sill Mouldings until sometime in November of '30. The exact verbiage says (Dropped November 1930) At that time the color combination was changed to Chicle on the lower Body areas and Copra on the upper Body, Belt, & Sill Mldgs.
BTW, Page 14-3 of the Stds confirms this too. Look at footnote #4. . Last edited by BRENT in 10-uh-C; 11-29-2010 at 02:44 PM. Reason: Addin' more stuff. |

Re: Coupe reveal color?
Brent, I guess I read the standards wrong (Page 14-3). When I saw the Copra-Chicle-Straw(4), I understood this was an option that was dropped in November 1930. My problem was I thought that since the Chicle-Copra-Straw was also listed below it (and not having a footnote saying that it only then became available in November), that it was available all year.
Since I'm trying to get my car together for judging, ultimately, I've been cautious not to make mistakes. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I previously thought about black, which would also eliminate a lot of masking. Last edited by Mitch; 11-29-2010 at 03:28 PM. |
