That's what I was thinking also. Seems like I have heard that term before, along with bonnet.

At a show yesterday I saw a 38 Studebaker President that had "side curtains". They were actually bolted on, but easily removable (looked like a single bolt) in order to work on anything in the engine bay. The hood did come up, but it was a really looooong way down to where that straight 8 flathead resided if you didn't remove the side curtains.

I think we're talking about different things here. "Side Curtains" here, are the window bits that go on the doors of open cars. What this is about is the "Bonnet Sides"
Oh, by the way, a "hood" is the roof of an open car. Different terminology sure makes talking with others interesting at times - might make for a good thread.

I knew about "bonnet" and "boot" for the hood and trunk lid, but this is the first time I've head of hood sides called side curtains.

What about them "wings" or fenders. Kind of like the nomenclature personally.

Those things are Mudguards here. Like most of these things, it's not hard to see how the names came to be.

Before another myth starts, Synchro909 has said it correctly----Down Under we call them Bonnet Sides.
Side Curtains are the snap on open top coverings with plastic windows.

And they're Wind Screens. not windshields here. Wheel nuts, not lug nuts. The Crown wheel is in the differential and the ring gear goes on the flywheel. The list goes on and ......

X2 The man is selling a complete bonnet (hood in US)with bonnet sides. We fit side curtains to the top of doors of open cars to provide protection from the weather.

Australia, New Zealand, UK and the USA. Four countries divided by a common language, English. It's not only auto terms, but many in general that are different between us.

Dave, when I worked Jaguar & all the Rootes Group Cars, I lurned MANY different/colorful terms, I forgot what "SCUTTLE" meant?? "Maybe" it was the cowl???
VOLVO had some ODD ones, that I don't remember too well. We laughingly referred to the cars as "FARGESTRARDERS"--Gotta' look up the meaning Chief always said, "Call me ANYTHING, as long as you call me for SUPPER"!!! or "Call me ANYTHING, as long as you say it with a SMILE"!! (LOVED THAT KRAZY MAN) Sorry for gettin' so sentimental, but that Man taught me SO MANY things.

Pooch, I think there are 2 cotter pins on an A. They go through the front axle and hold the king pin.
For the rest of you, what we are saying is that what you US people call a cotter pin is known here as a split pin. Oh, yes and we have no such thing as a Zerk. I had to google that to find out what they were talking about. We call them Grease Nipples.
