Default 6 blade generator mount cooling fans

Are they stock on any vehicles, or are they an option? Which length hubs fit what?

i put a six blade fan on my `37 1/2 ton,i think they were intended for the `37 - `41 big trucks. it is 17" diameter and it moves a LOT of air!

I put one on my '35 and it moves a LOT of air and ended any overheating concerns. The big downside, it is very noisy. It didn't take me long to switch back to an original four blade and look at other (ie. quieter), ways to deal with overheating.

I hear what you are saying. I have one on my 36 PU and it sucks some air, LOUDLY! But it sure runs cool. I'm needing to get info on 6 blade fan application. THX RAY

I think the real answer to this is one of those hot rod multiblade fiberglass fans mounted on a stock ford hub. Iam sure someone has done this "safely" and can post some pics and build info.

Beerayb, I have at least three different generator mount six blade fans. They are different in blade length and hub length. I had one on my '35 fordor sedan before I came up with other ways to keep the engine cool. The noise was not noticeable to me as my hearing problems did not allow me to detect any difference between the four vs. six blades. I was concerned that the six blade version would put an additional load on generator bearings, possibly causing them to fail sooner.

I made a little adapter and I am using a street rod type flex SS fan. It moves a tremendous amount of air but is not noisy. The engine has never got over 180 even last summer when if was 100 for a couple of weeks.
I have added a cross section drawing I made so I could machine it.

4 blade or 6. What length hub fits what applications for 32 to 39? They vary from about 1 in. to around 4 in. What fits what is my question. Thanks for replies. Ray

For what Ray? What are you planning to put this six blade fan on?

I don't know of any 6 bladed fan that fits 32-39 stock. I had a fan that somebody modified on my 32, It was a 6 blade 40 delux that was supposed to fit on the crank but they put a machined hub on it so it would bolt to the gen. It was not in good shape and poorly modified. I took it off. It actually fit the 32 very well. 33-36 at least used a short 4 blade.

Ray,I think the fan blade your looking for, is the 6 blade fan produced for the trucks 1933 thur 1936. This fan blade has 15 1/2" blades like the 4 blade fan,and the hub is also the same as the car which is 1 1/16". I hope this helps E.P.Williams

The Ford 6 bladed generator mounted fan is to loud for me and the air pattern throws the air out toward the fenders. I found 2 6 bladed industrial fans in the attic of the Schramm air compressor company years ago. I modified two of them for the old Fords. These fans move the air straight back over the top of the engine. Along with a shroud I modified from a larger Ford truck mounted upside down, cut out for the distributor and rolled the metal edges back like the parts pictures shows. This along with Skips pumps is the perfect cooling combination. This truck will run at a fast idle for over 2 hours on a 100 degree day and never get over 180. G.M.

There are 6 different generator mount 6 blade fan blades in the 32-37 parts booksome 17" diameter, some 15-1/2, and 15-11/16 diameter depending on use for trucks, some for single belt, some double belt (these fans can take a lot of horespower) and some for special generator

trying to spin a low speed fan fast using a small generator pulley can take over 10 horsepower and be hard on the belt, it might be better to fix the problem instead of bandaiding it with a bigger fan.

Ray,I do not know what year your working with, but if it is stock 33 thur 36, and you want a 6 blade fan, only the 15 1/2" fan blade will replace your 4 blade fan. The other two 6 blade fans that Kurt mentioned will hit your upper radiator hoses. I do agree with G.M.about the shroud, only there is not a lot of room on 33 thur 36 to add a shroud.I run a 6 blade fan on my 34,I have not noticed any more noise than the 4 blade fan.I also have original engine pans,so the air thur the radiator is force at the engine, and out the hood louvers. My engine block was boiled out,the radiator was cleaned,I installed Skips pumps, and Bobs thermostats.I put 1900 miles on this 34,running at 178 degrees. Now this car runs so cool,I am thinking about wearing my longjohns next summer, when I am driving it. I hope this helps.E.P.Williams

Does anyone have a 6 blade fan that will bolt onto a 37 or 38 car? Both distance to the radiator core and the distance to the bottom of the radiator tank are close with the stock 4 blade fan. I'd be ok with a noisy fan if I can drive my 37 in August in Texas. My car runs cool except when idling with ambient temperatures above 95 F.

My '47 Merc is running a 6-blade fan. Don't know whether or not these fans were stock for this car but it's on there, and it sure pulls a lot of air, as others have said.

My hopped up 276 8BA in a 36 pickup runs very cool, but noisy I'm thinking about changing to a 4 blade fan and check out the results. I have several fans in my collection both 4 and 6 blade with varying hub lengths and diameters. Wonder what would fit on what in an original application? Ray

Over the years I collected and tried a lot of fans with different hub lengths and fan diameters. The diameter needed is pretty easy to determine by the top clearance of the hoses or top tank. The length of the hubs are different and one should be chosen so the top of blade tips are about 1/2" from the radiator. To far away and the air is pulled from the sides and not though the radiator.
