Default 35 regulator 3 window?

Is this regulator correct for a 35 three window? I cant get the guide pin in the channel to match up with the slot in the regulator. I think I must have the wrong regulator. Anybody have a picture of the correct 35, 3 window regulator?

Here's a comparison to an original one that I removed from a '35 3W. Looks essentially the same as far as I can see - don't remember if there are any tricks to getting things together.

I'll compare it to the one I removed from my '36 3w tomorrow.

The hole in yours is round and mine is oblong. I'm trying to get a picture to load.

Looks like my 3W regulators, too.

Just need to get everything in the right place at the same time for the windows to work right. Glass has to be right size and the roller pin has to be located on the glass correctly.
About 15-1/4" from the front edge, going by the pictures I posted on your earlier thread.

At least, that is what worked on my coupe.

About 20 years ago, I bought a '36 3 window that had a cracked passenger side glass. I ordered a replacement, and when it arrived, I tried to replace it. It was a long time ago, but I remember that it was one of the more difficult tasks I had ever undertaken. I'll bet I spent hours at it. I finally got in in OK, but I remember thjnking that I never wanted to do that again.

rich b,
What needs to be 15 1/4" from the front edge? When you say "the roller pin has to be located on the glass correctly". Do you mean the roller pin placed in the guide slot on the regulator correctly? That's what I am having trouble lining up.

To make the windows work properly in my car, the roller pin had to be 15-1/4" from the front edge of the glass.

I also found that the aftermarket channels were not very good both in accuracy and quality, the length was wrong, the tracks were not parallel, and were not spaced consistently to fit the arms on the regulator. The tab for the roller pin was not square in either direction. I also found the repop roller stud I bought was the wrong height and didn't work with the regulator.

I ended up using one original and one NORS Regal track along with some salvaged roller pins. I also used an original 1936 dated window as a pattern for the glass.

What I learned was that the glass had to be the right size and the track in the right place to allow the slot in the regulator to "catch" the roller pin as the window is cranked up and then the pin will follow the track until the glass is all the way up, at which point the final motion will slide the window forward.

The 15-1/4" that worked for me is marked in this crappy picture. Disregard the guide fin as I only had a picture of an early style piece.

Thanks Rich. your assessment of the aftermarket channels is right on. Too long, hole too small. Not even close to the original. I will get back at it.

Ford used window regulators from outside manufacturers. There are slight differences between the regulators made by ABF and those made by DURA The difference in size and shape of holes in the gears does not effect the operation of the regulator.

Here's pics of the driver's & passenger's window regulators from my '36 3W. The crank was moved shortly after the start of the '36 production year, so that's why mine are slightly different from the '35's.

The horizontal main rectangle is a lot longer than the one that I have. Is this change made in '36? Thanks.

When Ford relocated the door handle from the forward position to mid door; they also had to move the window crank forward.

All pictures of window regulators shown are for 3-window coupes as well as other models. That said, the 35 and very early 36 regulators (48-702700/1) are different than the later 36 regulator (68-702700/1). As tagman indicated, when the crank handle was moved forward in Nov, 1935 a new regulator was designed. The two designs are not interchangeable. JKFlathead.....you need the 48-702700/1(that's the one you have)

Difference between the early and late doors. The inner panel is a different stamping; but it seems odd there is an additional hole which looks like it would allow a short regulator to bolt in place.

From looking at your picture it looks like you have a new repro glass channel?
There was a recent posting where someone was asking about 3 window channels versus 2 door sedan channels which are the common repros.

From what I recall, the repro needed modification to work in a 3 window door.

Is anybody able to tell me please, what is the correct length for door glass on 1935/1936 three window coupe? There is a difference of about 3/8" in length between the left and right door glass in my car. I'm hoping one of them is correct. Thanks, Mick.
