OK, a little trivia quiz...what is the following vehicle? Extra points for what makes it interesting and what it was used for.

Re: Interesting Vehicle - What Is It?
Another pic of a Ford unit. They were apparently used to move B-24 parts from California to Willow Run for War 2. DD

Re: Interesting Vehicle - What Is It?
I've only seen pictures of those things. I wonder if any survived. Be cool to see one on the Concourse! Who could argue about anything on it being "correct" or not?!!

Great; It has Military serial no markings, making it eligible for the MVPA shows. Newc

Is there a place or website were WWII Vehicle serial numbers can be traced? I have some photos of my Dad with his weapons carrier at a B-17 base that I'd like info on. Bob

Re: Interesting Vehicle - What Is It?
Well, dang - that didn't last long!
The tractors (<100) were built by Thorco/E&L and had side-by-side flatheads on a tray that pulled out for engine maintenance, etc - look close and you can see the seam around the grille area. The trucks pulled long (60 - 70 feet) trailers containing wings and other parts for B-24s. There is at least one survivor. Here's a truck that used twin brand-X (*cough* Chevrolet *cough*) engines. The interesting part is the three steering axles - in addition to the front two, the last rear axle was steerable! |

Re: Interesting Vehicle - What Is It?
Anyone have a pic of the twin flathead setup? I'd love to see how they were arranged.

Re: Interesting Vehicle - What Is It?
It seems to me that there was a article in the EV8 Times some time back about these trucks and had some good pics.

Re: Interesting Vehicle - What Is It?
As long as we're talking dual flathead trucks, is this what I think it is? Those appear to be 4 cylinder engines, but still, those grille shells........
