Default metal polishing Qs...

I've noticed that some guys have really clean intakes/heads that sparkle. I'm wondering two things:
Are these alum parts 'coated' with anything that maintains their bright appearance , or is it just constant elbow grease to keep looking so nice ?
Second question:
Can anyone advise of source of a 'polishing kit' that you have used and are happy with ?

I've had good luck using the Eastwood buffiing/polishing kit.

I've used a lot of Eastwood products in past years. Thanks, will look into what they have as a polishing kit !

Anyone ever use a product named 'Sharkhide' ?

After polishing alum I "try" to maintain it with Eagle One Never Dull. Leaves a coating the lasts fairly long. Have found water and heat cause most of the spotting.

Clear coat is not a long term solution. I yellows over time and starts coming off.
Yes, Never Dull works very well on aluminum, also Mothers polish.
You'll need to redo it about 3 times a year depending on where you store it and how much you drive it.

if you are talking about aluminum it can be coated with a ceramic coating that goes on like powder coating. The name of it is Cermachrome. If you look at my public album of my 32 avatar roadster the aluminum intake and steel headers have been coated with this stuff. It was done in 2000 and has over 6k miles on it and still looks the same. The manifold was NOT polished before it got the coating, just bead blasted.
This might accomplish what you want. If you Google it maybe a coater in your area can give you a quote.

I've looked into Eastwood and found that they have some equipment/products that look interesting.
I think that your ideas are good also. I'll look into that process, thanks !

Clear coat from a rattle can, unless you use a special product like Spraymax, is not resistant to gas. The clear will also yellow as mentioned above.
