My first sober day in 11 years. I have to thank Family and friends, but most of all the Ford barn. I can't remember the fellow that started it, but we thought we could help new comer's to the hobby. Then Shelly took over and it really took off. It's been a big help for me, be 90 in a few weeks, and still putzing areoun.I also want to say that I think Ryan is doing a great job of running this forum, I feel it's in good hands.

Hi Ron and thank you. I've done an annual post on my sobriety date since Shelly had the barn and I forgot to do it this year. I hit twenty two years on the 17th of this month, three days ago. And as always it's not about me. It's to inform and or remind anyone that hope and help is available and just a phone call or internet search away. It works if you work it, Craig.

Congratulations Ol' Ron. Fantastic accomplishment.

I cannot give a specific date, but I laid down my last cigarette right at 53.5 years ago. I was a 3.5 to 4 pack a day smoker when I laid 'em down. I started smoking "rabbit tobacco" or "corn silk" cigarettes before I started school, and was smoking tailor made cigarettes by the time I was in the 5th grade.

A nurse got after me about smoking. I told her I understood smoking took about 8-10 years off your life, but a lot of folks in my family lived to be in their mid to late 90s, so I wasn't worried about shortening my life a few years. She said, it's not that they shorten your life, it's that they destroy the quality of your life, and you don't want to live out your final years with COPD, Heart disease, etc. That caught my attention, and I laid 'em down, "cold turkey. I have never regretted it.

I am now 91 + 3 mos.

Good for you Lawson, I quit when I was in my 60's, 2 packs a day. Not sure why I can still breath. But I have one more engine to go.

I quit smoking on 01/01/1963 and that was the only new year’s resolution that I have ever kept. I started smoking in high school and was smoking 4 packs of Pall Malls by the time I got out of the army in 1959. Military priced cigarettes were 9 cents a pack back then, but civilian prices were higher. I’m 88 now and wonder if I would still be alive if I had continued smoking. I respect and admire everyone whos has quit these awful habits.
