Default 1935 Ford wheels, will they fit in spare wheel wells

If I were to put 1935 16 inch wheels on my 1930 Townsedan, will a spare of the same size fit in the wheel well, or do you have to modify the well?

Doesn't that defeat the whole idea of carrying a spare tire??

Not if you carry a tire pump. This is what I did on my '31 RDPU. I wonder how 550x16 or 500x16 tires would work/look?

They will fit if you will loosen the arm nut at the frame which will make it easier to adjust the angle of the arm which is different for the 19" and 16". Do not tighten th arm nut until tire and wheel is in the well. Also the air pressure should be at about 20 lb. I have used this method for many years.

Yo, Brent,
When I was MUCH younger, Chief would rub wheel bearing grease inside the wheel well, poke the deflated wheel/tire in, bolt it in, and pump it up to 35#. They "popped" out easily when needed! (Actually, it was I who rubbed the grease on, 'cause I was his "HIGHLY" paid "GREASEMONKEY!") Bill W.
