Default 35 pickup Dash/Gauge lights

Would anyone have a picture or diagram of where the light sockets are located on the backside of the dash for a 1935 pickup ?. Also if there are lights are they connected to their own switch or to the headlight/parking lights ?.
Thanks for any information you can share

Hi Janko, Both my '35 Fordor, and my '36 Phaeton have two light bulbs at about 10 and 2 on the edge of the spedo. They're the only ones making it tough to see the other gauges. Grabbed this photo from an internet search. Not sure it's a 35.

Control is a push/pull on the dashboard. Curiously one of the cars is IN for on and the other is IN for off?!?

Janko,

On the '35 pickup, the dash light is controlled by a toggle switch located about 3" to the right of the column drop on the underside of the dashboard. It gets powered by the Black with Blue tracer wire that comes up in the wire harness from the headlight/tailight switch.

35-36 dash light switches work opposite each other
I was thinking of trying a few well placed leds inside each gauge

The speedo isn't hard to take out to clean or replace the green plastic windows on the gauges, it makes a huge difference.

Thanks for everyone's help. A little knowledge beforehand makes a huge difference tackling things like this.
The Green plastic windows only cover the gauges, not the speedo face ?.

The green windows are in the top rim of the gauges behind the dash so that the light from the bulbs on the speedo shine down into the gauges. A 2 liter pop bottle is a good source if they are shot. I am thinking of putting more lights up there so I can see the temp and fuel too.

Bill:

When you figure it out, let me know. I cannot see temp and fuel either on my 35 PU. Been scratching my head over this for quite some time.

I found a source for 6 volt led bulbs that are brighter. They came from England but they got here in about a week. They fit and should last for ever. I may put a white reflector over the bulbs and gauges to get even more light, like painting the inside of the taillights white. They sell on ebay too. The bulbs for the dash have a ba15s base.

Don Rogers posted this in regard to the light bulb, with the #81 having twice as much CP as the #63.

Now Bill, if you can just tell us EXACTLY where you place the bulbs, we can FOLLOW YOUR LEAD.

Lawson,
They fit in the stock sockets as shown in post#2. Reach behind the dash and pull the socket out change the bulb and push it back in.

I just use a small LED flashlite to light up the temp gauge at nite while I'm driving, shine it on the gauge. Light lays on the front seat by me while driving.

They are all hard to see. Consumer Reports would have had a field day with this if they had been around then

My Model A is easier to see what is going on here than the '36 Pickup is.

Bill: With the old bulb gone, and the new LED in place, can you see the gauges like you are supposed to, or WANT to see, or are they still hard or are they still dim?

Lawson,
I haven't taken it out on the road at night yet but it is looking good, sort of. The speedo is great, the other gauges depend on the type. The ones with a needle, amp, fuel and oil catch the light well and should be fine. The temp is that sight tube that is back in the gauge and in a shadow. It really needs a back light or something like it. I also got some small (5mm) leds and I see if I can put one in the temp gauge. I'll keep you posted. I hope this yes and no helps.
