Default Carb adjustment

Question for the experts/ My timing is dead on. Starts perfect. As soon as it starts I bring the advance all the way down. Idle goes up quite a bit.

Should I set idle after advancing? If so. should it stay running with advance retarded?

You shouldn't pull the lever all the way down...half at most....
Adjust your idle when retarded ...the cars like it looow...

If the spark lever travels from 10:00 to 8:00, most driving is just fine at 9:00.
These monster do not need 40º of advance, especially at low engine speeds.
When the timing is right the engine will idle nice and slow with the lever up. The engine speed will pick up as the the lever is pulled down and still run smooth until it reaches 9-9:30. When the lever is fully advanced the engine will start to hunt a bit.

If I pull the lever all the way down while the motor is idling, the motor stops but doesn't kick back - just too much advanced to keep running.

Mitch has it.... Adjust it when retarded
I like it low and smooth
Sometimes you have to play with the idle fuel air mixture and gav to get it in the sweet spot
On e there you can do a final adjust on you idle speed when retarded
Where in Missouri are you ?

Why does the 'motor stop' ? It shouldn't. It must really be 'advanced'.
