Default Canadian Mercurys?

Just watched a YouTube video of a hot rod reported to be a 31 Canadian Merc.. I always thought Merc started in 39.. Did they start earlier in Canada?

There was a post on here a while back from a guy in the UK that had built a Model T touring car on a 31 Model A chassis & running gear. He called it a "Mercury". Couldn't find the post, but it was probably a year ago or so.

Mercury Started in Canada in 1939. Just like Acadia for Chevy II and Beaumont for Chevelle.

I can understand the confusion. Who knows maybe the Mercury bodied speedster sparked the name association with Ford and Ford Motor Company.
