Default Bearing shim question

I took off to many shims off my shim pack, for the main bearings. can I add back what I need? also when I turn over the motor it is hard to get it spinning, after that it spins easy. is that all right? please let me know.

thanks Brendan

Classic too tight symptoms. Add back to one side.

My friend's rebuilt engine was also tight to get moving with my KRW flywheel bar, but once it stated moving it felt good. The engine fired up and ran just fine. We have a couple hours on it now, but he's still waiting on the part time painter to finish the box. It's only been 11 years.

If the starter motor will turn it over and it starts, It's not too tight.

so I can add one shim to one side? I thought that they need to be the same thickness on both sides? is it ok to add back shims that I pealed off from the pack?

yes you can add back ones you took off. There does not have to be the same number on each side but they should only be off by 1 shim; example 4 shims one side, 5 the other

What were your clearances when you finished ? I like to keep the shims the same for each side, but, as said, it doesn't have to be.
