Re: Break Pedal Return Issue
28-29 switch mounts on top of the transmission and works just the opposite of the 31 switch . It has been a while since I made the change so I am little fuzzy on the details .

In addition, check that they are installed correctly. It is very easy to install them backwards so that the upset is on the wrong side of the spring tension. In this case the spring tension is fighting the return of the pedal instead of aiding it its return. It is very easy to install the front ones backwards as they install opposite from the rears. This will definately keep the pedal from returning to the full up properly. Tom Endy |

Re: Break Pedal Return Issue
I would stick with the correct switch for your car. As mentioned, the brake switch made by A&L is excellent.

Re: Break Pedal Return Issue
I had this exact same problem and initially thought it was the brake light switch. After inspecting the entire brake system, I discovered it was the brake cross shaft bushings which were binding which prevented the brake pedal from fully returning. I liberally squirted some penetrating oil on the bushings and they freed up enough that the brake pedal now returns fully. I will be replacing the bushings very soon since I believe they are worn out.

Re: Break Pedal Return Issue
Along with what ever one else said I have found the end of the brake operating rod bent enough to bind against the switch when the the round end of the rod first hits the switch.
