Default Footrest

What exactly is the footrest used for? Does it keep your foot from jumping up and down on the gas pedal when driving over bumpy roads?

Thanks, Steve

I use the foot rest when I am using the hand throttle on long straight lengths of road.

I think Jim is on the right track - some place to put the foot when not using the accelerator button. I imagine it was the "curise control" of the day!
I don't think I've ever used it, so when I changed floorboards a few weeks ago, I didn't even put it back in. So far I haven't missed it.

I have one and use it to steady my foot as well. It is original, looks good and provokes Q&A. It shows considerable wear on one side so it must have been used by the previous owners.

Default Proper use of foot rest ???

I believe that the foot rest is properly used as a pivot point for your foot when operating the foot accelerator. There is an adjustment on the foot rest to raise or lower it. I set mine to just a little below the height of the accelerator button. Then I rest the right side of the ball of my foot on the foot rest with the left side of the ball of my foot on the accelerator button. Then to give more gas I rotate my foot by lowering the left side of the foot. The right side of my foot is always on the foot rest. This allows me to have more control of the gas with my foot.

Intresting points of view. I think I'll put mine back in and try your idea of using it as an accelerator control rather than just for cruise control.
