Default 40 fordor deluxe door female dovetail question

Bobdrake sells the replacement pieces for inside here the wedges and do they work easily to get in and out when it's installed in the door. Because they also sell just the wedges as a replacement piece

Thanks

Those aren't the ones I would use. You can buy just the wedges in metal to replace your old ones.

Ken has this one spot on. Replace only the wedges and springs. It is very easy to do.
As this is apparently a new project for you, take note of how they were placed when removing them.
The entire job should take about one minute per door.

A huge caution here.

Ford used two types of wedges in the 1937-40 era. Some were metal and some were plastic. The two types DO NOT interchange into the door post as the inner housing is different. You have to be sure to match what came out of the car.

If you have to replace the housing the only option available is the plastic type. If you need to replace the wedges the metal ones are readily available, or buy the plastic ones and discard the new housings.

Drake is not the "manufacturer" on the plastic wedge/housing kit. That supplier is currently out but expects to make more within a year.

The plastic wedges were one of Ford's "better ideas" that was tried then discarded. I think they were introduced in 1937 and used into 1938 but as with anything Ford this is always subject to use up what is on hand.

thanks karl,

i took all of them out this morning. they were all metal so i ordered 4 sets of replacement ones with springs. as for changing them out in a minute, that might be the case if the inside was all clean. i think mine had 77 years of gunk in there. i took my time and cleaned it all out and made it nice and smooth. they are easy to change, but i had never done it before

yes, this is my first 40 ford to work on but not my first thing to rebuild. i have taken 100% of the interior out except for the dash and rebuilt, polished, or replaced almost everything. i am on the tail end and will have everything back in and ready to go to the trimmers next week.

getting the door windows in and out was fun for sure but i got them done along with new felt and channels all around. they work nicely now.

the garnishes are being painted at a body shop as i type and i will reassemble them with new rubber later this week
