Default What's Up With This 19" Wheel?

I saw this wheel today at the estate auction. Notice the bent spokes and how the spokes are fastened inside the center hub. I don't recall seeing a wheel like this before, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it?

A group of 5 excellent powder coated orange 19" wheels went for only $125. There were a lot of wheels only good to be welded into lawn chairs.

There were several shocks outside the shop door that I forgot to check on. I might have bought them for a dollar each from the junk guy had I remembered to ask.

There was a company called "Motor Wheel" that produced wheels with that kind of spoke but I have only read about them in smaller sizes.

Kelsey-Hayes "bent spoke" wheels are quite common as a 1935 accessory wheel. Much harder to find in the 17" accessory wheels of the 1933-34. Really hard to find them in the 18" for the 1932 Ford.

And REALLY hard to find in the 19" wheel for the '30-31 Ford, if any. That is IF we are talking Kelsey-Hayes 'bent-spoke' wheels. What is (also REALLY hard to find) rarely found in the 'bent spoke' 19" wheels for the Ford Model A, is the accessory wheel produced by the Motor Wheel Corporation. They made both the sold 'bend-spoke' and a 'Adjustable bent spoke' wheel. The adjustable 19" wheels are exceptionally hard to find, but the standard 'bent-stoke' 19" wheels by Motor Wheel Corp. do occasionally turn up from time to time.
Bent-Spoke wheels were not made for the 21" wheels of 1928-29.

There is usually a premium price placed on these kind of wheels IF they are in good shape.

The MAFCA/MARC Judging Standards to NOT allow accessory wheels for Blue Ribbon judging, so these unique accessory wheels are relegated to 'Driver' status. Like Marco, I too have a set of these wheels, but have to set them aside and replace them with Ford Factory Wheels for judging purposes.
