Question Generator mounting bolt question

I just removed the generator from my 29 Tudor. The mounting bolt on the bottom was inserted from the rear with the nut & lock washer on the front side. I see Les Andrews' book shows the nut & lock washer on the back side toward the fire wall. What is the correct installation? I tried to find an answer in the "Judging Standard" book with no luck.
The generator repair shop bench tested the generator and it wouldn't even put out 6 volts. They are going to tear into it today and give me the verdict. Smitty

Lock washer and nut should be on the rear side.

That's what I figured based on Les Andrews' book. Thanks, Tom!

FWIW, I just R&R'd the generator on our '31 and if the nut and lockwasher were on the front the belt would be rubbing hard on the nut.

If the nut & washer are to the front, it'll likely rub the fan belt.

Somehow I lucked out. No damage to the fan belt I can see. Turns out the armature & field coils were bad in the generator and they told me the cut out was also bad. Hopefully, I'll have everything back in "Martha" by the middle of next week and I will make sure the nut & washer are on the back side of the mounting bolt. Thanks for all of your input. Smitty

Just an update on the generator-- One day after I ordered a NuRex diode cut out from Snyder's - the guy and the generator rebuild shop called & said they screwed up. They originally tested my old cut out based on it being the old style. That test said the cut out was bad. Then they realized it was the diode style and retested it. That 2nd test said it was OK. I told them I just ordered a new one to the tune of $63.60(incl. postage). I told them I didn't want to return it as I had just returned something to Snyder's that I ordered by mistake. The shop guy said they might be able to take the new one and give me credit on my rebuild bill. They already gave me a price on the rebuild before this cut out deal happened. It wasn't 2 hours after I got off the phone with the guy and the new cut out was delivered to me. Snyder's typical great service! I may just keep it as a back up. In case anybody cares-I should have an update next week. Smitty

Smit
Put the cut out on one of your other cars in the fleet. I prefer them over the original style for durability ,,no moving parts ..
