Merc-o-matic linkage
I'm swapping my 6 and 3speed in my 54 custom line for a 312 and merc-o-matic out of a 57 mercury. The problem is, I don't know how the linkage should look like at all, the merc was push-button operated. On the transmission it is two arms on the same axle, and a hole with something that looks like a cable connection. Do I have to install a push-button panel to operate it, or is it some way to connect it to the three on the tree?

Re: Merc-o-matic linkage
One of the two arms is the gear selector. The other is the throttle control arm (passing gear). The hole? Speedometer cable?

Re: Merc-o-matic linkage
No, it is not the speedometer cable, this one (it is actually 2) is just above the 2 arms, and has an inspection hole or something under, where I can see a rod with tracks on. I tried to move the rod up and down, and it clicks, just like a shifter arm... None of the arms clicks when I move it...

Sounds more difficult than it is. I couldn't open the picture; something about it is no longer up. If the hole you refer to is on a boss and does not enter the transmisson cavity, it's probably just a securing point ofr the speedometer cable as Y-Block said. Good luck, Motorhead |
