Clutch chatter
New clutch plate, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing. Flywheel refaced and now on the first trial run the clutch is chattering real bad. Any advice and or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jim

Re: Clutch chatter
sometimes you cant do anything with them.trucks are the worst years ago when i worked at a garage we would toss the 3 finger pressure plate and install a diaphragm type.

Re: Clutch chatter
Is it the proper disc? Are there springs in the hub? Some industrial/tractor ones didn't. Does the disc have "marcel"? This is a strange name to describe the 'waviness' of the metal disc that the lining is riveted to. It should not be completely flat. The waviness gives a more gradual engagement. The pressure plate squeezes the two linings together as it engages, to prevent an 'all-or-nothing' engagement.
Also, no oily/greasy fingers are allowed during assembly! |

Re: Clutch chatter
as a last resort, put front bumper against a tree or telephone post in high gear and slip clutch till it starts to smoke and stink, let it cool and see if its better, high spots or grease on a poor quality cluthch may be worn off

Re: Clutch chatter
Ford3 that would be my solution too. If everything is OK sometimes it is all that is needed to bed in a clutch.
