Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
I realize this isn't a production model. It was either made from a Parklane or a Ranch wagon. I only say Ranch Wagon because part of the Parklane trim is missing.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
I'm thinking Parklane because of the '56 trim & back seat.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
The PARKLANE script is missing as he has it badged as a CROWN VIC on the front doors.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
This beauty was on display at the 2020 Grand National Roadster Show. It is a 1955 Ford with Crown Victoria doors and tiara fitted. The side chrome has been changed and the wagon is wearing 56/57 Lincoln Premiere Wheel Covers. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Here is the Body Trim Parts Drawing for the 1956 Ford Parklane, showing that small Trim Piece, Number 29138 and 29139 that scicala made mention of in Post 242. Last edited by mercman from oz; 02-05-2020 at 11:38 PM. Reason: Added extra Part Number |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
It almost looks like the roof has been changed, because my Parklane had a higher 'crown'. If you look at a wagon, you'll see that the roof looks higher than a hardtop/crown vic.

Correct. The SDN-SW roof is higher than on a CV-HDTP-CONV and has to be sectioned and lowered to accept the CV tiara.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Ford built a Magic Cruiser in 66 and another in 67 just show cars but 2dr hardtops. Kind of a odd wagon in 69 that appeared to be a 3 door hardtop, Lincoln type doors on right side and 1 door on left side. All show cars. Anyone have pictures?

It is hard to imagine that this show winner started out looking like this. Thanks Rockets Garage for the Link. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Apparently, that wagon was built out of a '55 Crown Vic. They kept the original CV roof jus to the "B" pillar and cut the rest off, then they had to build the back portion of the roof to mate with the front part. Also notice the entire back window area is all custom made and doesn't look anything like the original '55/56 wagon windows. Besides that, the Parklane model didn't come out until '56.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
This is the 1955 Ford Crown Victoria that was used in the conversion of that neat 1955 Ford 2 door hardtop wagon. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
The 1956 PARKLANE was merely a HI-TRIM level on a RANCH WAGON.
Poor attempt to emulate the CHEV NOMAD and PONT SAFARI.

You are absolutely correct, but this was not the first time that Ford offered a poor substitute. When GM First offered the 2 door hardtop, Ford was left behind and hurriedly introduced the Crestliner. It was not until part way through 1951 that Ford finally caught up with the late introduction of the 1951 Ford Victoria. To be truthful, both the Crestliner and Parklane wagon were very nice vehicles, but they didn't hit the high spot that the 1950 Chev Bel Air Hardtop and 1955 Chev Bel Air Nomad wagon did. However, Ford did surprise everyone with the lovely 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria, a body style that Chev could not match. |
