Default Barrett B-75BS True-Arc Brake Shoe Grinder

In my quest to do the best brake job on my A and my 32 I have just picked up a brake shoe grinder. It requires an 8 1/4" diameter abrasive disc, Cat. # 99A-36, part number 80-1240-1.
My sales rep has no idea what I am talking about, so, experts, what do you use as a substitute and where to you get it?
Thanks for your suggestions. Ted

Maybe something like this would work.

Thanks Bob, that looks like a good resource. I hope to hear what works for others in terms of grade,Grit, open/ closed, cloth or paper backed. Ted

Yes, look at woodshop supply companies where they sell orbital disc sanders. My brake grinder spins at a high RPM, and we generally do not need to take off much material so an 80 - 120 grit is fine.

I purchased a vintage brake shoe grinder from the local NAPA dealer - a different brand than yours, and parts were no longer available. I needed abrasive belts for mine and found a good source for shop equipment at: Goodson.com
Possibly they can help you too. They were very good to work with.

I have original sanding discs that came with the 2nd brake doktor, they are much more coarse than I picked from harbor freight selection for the first one, even though the discs are 50+ years past the expiration date they still stick ---they are about 36-50 grit, can't take pictures till the weekend

Thanks Brent, John and Kurt. I was thinking with the part number as A-36, that it might refer to the coarseness. Will keep looking.

Yes, I believe the disks for your unit came in 24 or 36 grit. There may have been one SLIGHTLY finer.

Thanks Marco. I will see what I can find. Now to find a drum lathe with the 11/16" spindle.

40 grit seems to be the most popular for brake shoe grinding sleeves that Goodson sells, so that narrows my search. Now is that open or closed?

An update on the abrasive disc, I bought a Norton Metalite R228 PSA Disc, Cotton backing, Pressure sensitive adhesive, aluminum oxide, 24" diameter, 40 grit for $7.80 plus shipping on Amazon. I cut out an 8 1/4" disc and put it on. Works great and I can get a few more discs out of it if needed.
Now I just need to figure out why it is not grinding a true arc.
I also just bought an Ammco 4000 drum lathe with all the tooling. It does a beautiful job turning front drums.
I have the Ammco 9708 11/16" Arbor kit coming this week. Can't wait to see how it works turning rear drums. Ted

Do you have the instructions for the grinder?
