Default Emergency brake cable replacement Ford 8"

Can the emergency brake cables on my Granada 8" be replaced without removing the brake shoes?

Yes, once you get the brake drums off, you will see that the cable is hooked to the arm that is attached to the secondary(rear) brake shoe. You can remove the connector, and pull the e brake cable out of the backing plate from under the car. You will need to make the sping steel around the cable smaller (tighter to the outer cable housing). I usually use a very small hose clamp, then just pull.

Parklane, thanks for responding. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get the end of the e-brake cable attached to the e-brake arm if everything (shoes, etc.) were already attached to the backing plates; in other words completely assembled less the drums.

I don't know if this is possible, but disconnecting the inner cable from the front and pulling it out through the brakes might work. It will give you cable to work with.

Parklane; the hose clamp sounds like a great idea. I usually teach the car new words doing that job. Thanks!

Try using a 1/2" or 13mm boxed end wrench instead of a hose clamp (if the end is off the brake shoe to get it over the cable end). Compresses it enough to get it started out the backing plate.

Now those options beat the H out of needlenose pliers. And blood blisters!
Thanks.
