Reds Headers
Has anyone used reds headers? I want to get an aftermarket type exhaust manifold for several different reasons, and mainly because the intake i'm using right now doesn't really match up that great with the stock exhaust manifold. The reason i'm asking about reds, is because they seem relatively cheap for tube headers, but im wondering if this is a case of you get what you pay for. I cannot afford to spend 100's of dollars on other tube headers or the cast iron manifold. I also have to much money in the down draft intake i'm using, and i don't want to sell it or stop using it because it runs nicely.

Re: Reds Headers
I have not used them on a Model A 4 cylinder engine but I have installed them on the 59AB flathead V8 in my 39 half ton pickup. If your a V8 guy you know that the cast iron Fenton headers have problems clearing the steering box but Reds headers fit well with no problems. I'm very well satisfied and they are well built headers.

Re: Reds Headers
Never used them on Model A stuff, but the Y-block stuff I've bought from them has been pretty good. No complaints from me!

Re: Reds Headers
Can't say anything bad about Reds headers nor have heard anything bad.
Maybe talk to BCCHOPIT here on the barn and see if you can help you out. Good products do cost money unfortunately... Here is BCCHOPITs thread on intakes and exhaust. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16546 |

Re: Reds Headers
I have a set of Reds headers (4 into 1) with a Speedway glass pack that came with a collector flange installed ready to bolt together. Works for me. Would I do it again? Yes. Have I found anything better? No.

Re: Reds Headers
Again, I didn't love mine when I got it out of the box. I thought it was really cheap.
This is a picture of it out of the box.... They welded on a cheesy logo tag that I ground off and smoothed out the header pipe. On the front side of the flange that you look at, they only tack weld the pipes to the flange. I did not like this. I had a well known welder buddy TIG up the rest of the weld on the outside. The block surface is just a bunch of weld built up and then ground flat on a sanding table. And the ends of the tubes were too close together for the muffler shop to weld flanges to. He had to struggle with fit quite a bit. But after quite a bit of tweaking, I am now happy with them. So it depends on how picky you want to get with them.

Re: Reds Headers
I will try to get you a picture tomorrow. I run Reds Headers on the speedster. I found no downside. It was a good fit and easy installation. I am also running the Weber carb and downdraft manifold with the Reds Headers.
I run one of the Snyders Cast Iron headers wiuth a Weber Carb on the S/W. akso goood fit and easy install. |

Re: Reds Headers
Can you use the stock looking Aries muffler with Reds Headers?
Does that take away the benefit? I am getting ready to install a Weber Carb and I know a header would help with the breathing... |

Re: Reds Headers
You would have to cut the Aries muffler down and weld a flange to the opening of both the header and the Aries muffler so that both pieces can be installed in the car.

Re: Reds Headers
But I CAN use an Aries muffler right?
I just installed it and would hate to replace it already. |

Re: Reds Headers
I would see no problem using it. You just have to get an exhaust shop to weld a 3 bolt adapter to the exhaust pipe, and to the header so they will bolt up together.

Re: Reds Headers
I have been waiting since December to get my set of headers from Reds. Building an old school 32 ford with flathead and f-100 steering box. Hope I get them soon and they fit right. Was told they are the guys that you want to make headers for my car. Hope I get them soon. Anyone got a pair laying around for sale let me know.
