Default RM Sotheby’s this weekend

Not sure if anyone else has pointed out this weekend’s RM Sotheby’s auction with a flood of EFV8’s, mainly 1936’s. Full indication of the drop in prices. Will be interesting to see the results. Even the 33 Roadster seems cheap, although needing another full restoration. Oddly, the price to do that has skyrocketed.

I'm a 33 guy and IF i could only have one EFV8 it would have to be a 33 roadster BUT I would expect that at $40k low starting point it to have a "closer" to period correct flathead in it, NOT an 8BA. JMO. and I am a "younger" enthusiast

Many of the Fords are from the collection of Ed Meurer. High quality collection being disbursed.

I can't believe that beautiful '34 Victoria with a lot of options only sold for 29 K.

I was there to bid on the '33 roadster. Unfortunately, the '33, like the other early Fords in that collection, suffered from '70s restoration quality of work that wouldn't pass today.

While the prices looked good, they needed work to bring them up to today's standards.

ctaulbert, please describe what was done wrong. All bondo? Patch panels welded in wrong? I know things always look better in pictures but from what I see, I wouldn't mind having that 33 as a starting point. My 33 is unrestored and will stay that way. Many of my cars were ones nobody else wanted to touch.

Three of the four fenders had crude bead repairs. The front floor pan had rusted through on the passenger side, and the entire front floor was skinned over with flat sheet metal. Once the car was outside in the sun in the staging lanes, a lower left quarter patch started to highlight.

The door strickers were also shimmed toward the doors with a fair amount of material, though the doors fit the car well. Are '33-34 strikers unique, and this had earlier pieces?

Thanks for that description. Things do look better in pictures! Sounds like it was redone to sell.
