Default "Tape" under dash

I have a 1939 Tudor Deluxe Sedan and am finding this black cloth like tape under the dash and under the interior moldings, probably for a cushion between the metal parts. I've attached a photo of the stuff under the chrome center piece of the windshield frame. Is this stuff available so I can replace it?
Thanks
Jim

I recall seeing that "old tape" also. I bet the old cloth style electricians tape would work if you coul find some. Otherwise use plastic electricians tape as it is hidden.

It was used to eliminate annoying metal to metal squeaks. If you have ever driven a vehicle and could not find a squeak in the dashboard area it could be that some of the tape was missed during production or worn through.

I've even seen metal gutters inside convertables bodies left off in production that later caused water to flood the new vehicle trunk compartment!

It was a bow-tie vehicle.

It's called friction tape, Home Depot has it.

I have been using canvas "duck" cloth. Cut to width and length and I have sprayed it with black spray paint. Looks just like the original. I use spray adhesive to attach it. Used this between dash & cowl, under headliner retainers above doors and will use between front fenders and aprons. Looks authentic and is very thin, like the original, so it doesn't add much bulk.

Parts suppliers sell 1 x 1/16 25 foot rolls of welting for about $16. V 5010 A or B 5010A. It seems like it might be a tad thick, but the friction tape is probably good if you can find it. This thin welting/webbing is used in many places in addition to dash to body.

Growing up in MN, straight-bladed Northlands were our favorites. "Borrow" a roll of friction tape from Dad's tool box, wrap the blade, and put a big knob on the handle end to keep it from slipping through your glove. Adhesive tape from the medicine cabinet would work, too. A CCM puck, a couple of Life magazines for shin guards, and you were good to go for a game on the nearest muskrat pond. Ah, the good old days.

You forgot to add making a puck out of a Pet milk can. Or is that a CCM puck?
Gary.

CCM was the brand--had an orange label, as I recall. Guess we'd graduated from milk cans, tuna cans, etc., to store bought.
