Default Piston Placement

30 over pistons. Pulled them for a small rebuild.....removed babbitt and now full insert motor.
My question.....which way do these go back in? Forgot to take note when removing.

The splits go to driver (left) side.
Are the rods installed on the pistons with the rod dippers in correct direction? To pick up oil when the engine rotates?

MAG thanks.
From the front facing the vehicle the the rotation is clockwise so the rods will have the dippers facing to the left for picking up oil is what I understand.

Russ/40 I honestly do't know.
They have some kind of pattern to them. Don't know what was done.
30 over with non adjustable lifters?
Who knows why or what some people do?

Other than the rear main leak due to a poor babbitt job......the engine ran smooth, quiet and with pretty good power.

All this talk of facing the left, facing the driver's side etc all leave room for confusion. For example, if something is to be facing the driver's side, it is completely wrong wrong in RHD world. I prefer to say the dippers face the camshaft. No confusion, even when the engine is upside down.

My comments weren't aimed at you, 2935. They were intended as a general observation and suggestion. You are on the money, so long as it correct, what matters?

Synchro909.....never took it that way.

I just want to do it right before I assemble it and find out it's wrong!

Chuck Sea/Tac.......I will have to check that. Before the tear down as I mentioned it ran very well. No unusual noises and had lots of power. I tore it down to fix that rear main leak and decided to go inserts.
You always find something on something you didn't build yourself.

This A is just a fun car to putt around in and with. As I drive it and work on it, I fix what I find and keep driving. They are such fun cars to own.
