Default Brake lights

So on to my brake light issue. When pressing on the brakes, only the yellow part lights up. I can't get anything on the red part to light up. The car also came with this strange license plate that that wags back and fourth. That does work. Any ideas?

You can replace the lens with an all red one.

I often recommend that folks add an LED brake light in the rear window. Not original, but a much more functional cue to modern drivers and you can leave the original brake light as is. They can also be wired to double as turn signals.

Your brake light was easy, you figured it out yourself, but the wagging license plate? That's got me stumped. Is it on the front or the back?

Your yellow lens will light up red with a red LED behind it. Use a bright one. (Or two). Some places require red brake lights. The bulbs cost about the same as new lenses, and you stay original, fwiw.

I got a ticket in California many years ago for a yellow stop light on a Model AA truck. I went to court to show that it was original equipment and the judge dismissed the ticket. I think the cops just wanted to get my truck off the highway. It was an original farm truck and looked the part including bullet holes going out from the riffle that the farmer would store behind the seat.

What you described might be the "WigWag" stop signal brake light. They were on Studebakers as an option beginning in 1936. I think it was a $5.00 item or $6.00 dealer installed. Patent applied for in 1931 by Safety Signal Inc. in Chicago and made by Dua-Saf.
