1947 Ford frame question
I have a 1947 ford coupe complete chassis, and I was wondering if the frames are the same from 1941 to 1948, and would they accept a pick up body and bed and fenders and what years would work. And if so would anybody have a pick up body/bed/ fenders etc. available. If not then I would put this chassis up for sale.
Thanks ahead of time for your expert opinions. Ron. |

Re: 1947 Ford frame question
41 is a different animal, pickups and car frames were same in 41.
42 to 48 cars were the same, but the pick up had a completely different frame. They will not interchange. |

Re: 1947 Ford frame question
They are similar but the 1941 passenger vehicles still had the crankshaft mounted fan with the low radiator mountings on the front. The commercial pickups started out with a frame that was similar to the 1940 frames but the front cross member changed for the 6-cylinder engines. The 1942 commercial pickup had open drive so its a lot different than 1941. The cab on the jail bar trucks is similar to the cabs on the earlier commercial vehicles before the open drive change but it takes a good bit of work to use it on one.

Re: 1947 Ford frame question
The 41-48 passenger frames are virtually the same with some minor differences. The 42-47 pickup frames are totally different from the passenger frames.

Re: 1947 Ford frame question
41 car frames, there is a early and a late for 1941
The frames are too wide to 'build"a custom truck using a 47 and early truck cab and sheetmetal on a 1941 or 1942 to 47 passenger car frame. The cab wont sit down over the rails like it does on the 35 to 40 chassis. |

Re: 1947 Ford frame question
same cab from 1940 to 47. 40/41 used a car frame very similar to a car, but without the outside frame body mounts. 42 to 47 truck frames are of the "ladder bar" style, no x frame just two parallel rails with cross members, yes you can mount a 40/47 ford truck cab on any of these frames, the mounting blocks, etc are different. If you can't do this don't tell my 41 truck because it has a 47 cab

Re: 1947 Ford frame question
Thanks guys, would any body be interested in a 1947 ford coupe complete chassis, it is a 6cylinder chassis with every thing from the radiator to the gas tank with original wheels trim rings and hub caps brakes all work and also the complete steering column with a very nice steering wheel.
Thanks Ron. |

Re: 1947 Ford frame question
Ron, as you can see from my Avatar, I'm partial to '47 coupes. Do you have no interest in restoring it as a coupe? It would be a lot more valuable and perhaps you could parlay it into that truck your after??
