Default Ideal cruise R. P. M.

What do you consider the ideal r.p.m. at cruise? Engine is an 8ba with 4 in. crank, .040 over, max 1 cam,. Car is a roadster that weighs about 2700 lbs. with full fuel, 2 people and luggage. Planning a long trip that will involve several 500 mile days at interstate speeds. Thanks in advance

I recommend an Over Drive in every street car. My 40 with a 276 has a T-5 and 3:50 rear gears. At 60mph with a GPS I'm turning 2000 RPM. I've taken a lot of long trips with this car. Walt

With a 3.70 rear axle and OD trans, at 2500 rpm I'm running 73 mph. 20+ mpg. 276 with Winfield SU1A cam and Holley 390 cfm 4 barrel.

If you plan on making long trips, I'd make sure your Ignition advance curve and carburetor jetting is OK. The cruise RPM runs from 2000 to 2500 depending on cam and speed. A well tuned engine should give 18/22 MPG.
