Removing pulley & fan from waterpump on 226G SIX Cylinder
Ok.. I've read several posts on here about removing rusty items & freeing stuck motors using a combination of Marvel Mystery Oil, Automatic Trans Fluid, etc...
I removed the 4 bolts holding the fan & fan pulley to the water pump of my 1947 Ford Fordor with the flathead SIX motor (G model).. This is an extra pump, fan & pulley I bought as a spare (one of the rare items for this engine). It was sitting on a car in Montana for God knows how long.. I soaked the pulley & fan in AT fluid for the last two days after spraying some PB Blaster as well.. As you can see from the photos, I am soaking the bowl side of the pulley where it meets the flange on the water pump.. The 4 bolts are reinserted on the fan loosely to keep the AT fluid/PB Blaster juice from pouring out (instead it is trickling very, very slowly through the gaps & spreading out into the flange, fan & pulley.. I tried knocking the fan & pulley loose with a rubber mallet.. but so far no luck.. Should I soak longer? And suggestions would be helpful.. (no I am not planning on swapping the motor for an SBC..) Thanks WALT

Set it up in a press and press the shaft and impeller out of all.

Re: Removing pulley & fan from waterpump on 226G SIX Cylinder
Don't think that will work. Best I remember from dealing with the G series 6 I had in my 47 is that it has to be pressed out the front but I think there is a snap ring that has to come out first so that means the Pulley has to come off. The first year of the G series was 41 and that water pump has a bushing like the V8 pumps. After that, 42-47, it has a bearing like the 8BA v8.

I would suggest the blue spanner, try heating the pulley and then quenching it in cold water too that may stop things sticking together so much.
