Default running boards 1941 ford

installing new rubber on the running boards a few questions I have. should the surface be paint free? and do you bolt threw the rubber in the two spots the arms come out from the car? or should the bolts be flat headed under rubber? and who has the better rubber to install.

thank you for your help!!!

yes, thru the rubber. there are two in front, two in the middle plus the bolt in front and back that attach the R/B to the fenders

Hi all; Some the local guys have been using a roofing cement [blk] as it gives you a bit of work time. They start with the outer edge and work inward. Newc

If you can access the March issue of Auto Restorer the section Mechanic on Duty pg. 7 has a lengthy post on restoring running boards. It is a question about Packard boards but the info will apply to all makes.

Fill the dents with Bondo. If you don't the dents will show up in the rubber once it is applied. The covers follow the contours of the boards.
