Default Stakes for 37 1/2 ton

I have been trying to figure out what would be original for the stake sides of my 37 1/2 and I'm at a bit of a loss.

From what I can see in pictures of old advertising and what may be factory restorations of 1 and 1 1/2 ton flat beds, the stakes would be the stamped steel variety. Even the AA trucks seem to have come with steel stakes and hardwood slats, but the grain sides came as all hardwood.

it seems to be that most stake side owners opt for tapered wood stakes with a cove routered around the top and sides.

Would the Eklers stamped steel stakes intended for the AA fit the stake pockets on a 37? they are quite pricey for a full set at $54 a piece, needing 14 of the buggers, but I lake the way it looks. I'm going for a "bought new in 37 and used for a few years" kind of a look, so mostly stock.

Any guidance?

I have a friend that has a 37 steak side truck his family has had for generations since new. It will be in Dearborn next week at the EFV8 Club National meet.

I could have him contact you?

That would be great. I'd love some photos if he could spare the time.

I did a search of 1937 Ford Stake bed truck and all the images are with wood stakes and slats. There is some steel hardware joining sections together.

I have seen those, but I have also seen the steel. I know they where an option, so I could go the farmer route and make my own and it would still look right for my goal. I just want to know all my options.

Seth, I'm guessing you are talking about this one.

1/2 ton and 3/4 ton had wood stakes. 1 1/2 ton had metal stakes.

The Barn saves the day. Thanks so much guys.

While we're here, do you have a detail of the bed?
I'm sure it was paintedthe same as the body and stakes, but what wood did you use? and I need to replace the rails under the bed as well.

In fact, what woods did you use on each part?

I used southern white ash-local sawmill had two trees and I bought both--ford called for a straight grain hardwood, factory installed beds were painted body color-dealer installed could have been about any color, the remains of a bed that I had on the 3/4 ton had black painted wood

So I finally went ahead and made them.
I know they are quite a bit taller than original, but I'm very happy with the way they turned out. I went with free scrap wood from my lumberyard, so it's all Doug fir.

Huge thanks to everyone who has input thus far.

Only thing I need now is the panel that sits on the front two side stakes and the cane bolt between the sides. Anyone know if anyone reproduces that cane bolt, has an original to sell or closeup pictures to make them myself?20231111_093239.jpg

I didn't clarify my question on the panel. Wether or not it's sheet metal or plywood and what thickness either way.
