Default Rear Spring Question

I have a 1930 coupe running chassis only and I plan to make it a pickup truck. I know the coupe has an 8-leaf rear spring and the pickup should have a 10-leaf rear spring. My question is: can I just add 2 leaves to the coupe spring, or do I need a 10-leaf spring unit that's designed for a pickup? Thanks for any help!

Unless you plan to haul heavy loads in your pickup you will find the leaving the coupe coupe spring it will ride better. I had a 28 pickup and it’s ride was pretty stiff unless I was hauling a good heavy load at which point it smoothed out. Your choice but I would leave it.

I agree with HDowse. The back of a P/U is not very heavy and a heavy spring will result in an uncomfortable ride unless you have a load in there. If you are just touring or going for ice cream as it seems you guys over there do a lot of, I'd leave it too and even then, lubricate it well.

I installed a 7 leaf roadster rear spring and my 30 CCPU now rides a lot better with the lighter spring. I'd leave the 8 leaf coupe spring and not install a 10 leaf pickup spring.
