Old copper core ignition wires upsetting the signal???

I am guessing, I admit, but if it works when the engine is not running, it must be something like that.

Mart.

If it is a Sears rig, bend over. I had to buy a new clicker when all the old one needed was a special reprogram. Sears was very snotty about it. There is one button that if mashed in conjunction with something else throws the clicker out of whack. That is of course if it still does not work when your car is not running. I have gone in and out of my garage with EV8s and model Ts and have not had a problem.

I have to stick the remote out the window to make it work.

I open mine with brute strength and awkwardness. My parents had one you could change the program code. This might be an option. I am no electronic genius and I am still fascinated by the rotary dial phone.

I think the wall mount switch is hard wired and no radio waves are required. Some remotes have a lock button so the door will not be opened accidentally. My wireless phone interferes with my television reception ever since the government required televisions to go digital.

I am not into electronics but I think the static from the ignition is being received by the garage door opener as a signal and it won't open because it is the wrong signal. Have you tried backing into the garage which when you are leaving would put the engine ignition further from the unit and add more metal between the unit and the ignition?

It's the signal from the car's electric. Shut the car down and it will work fine. Some say solid core wires do this, I haven't gotten that far yet to change them. I fixed this another way, I simply leave the door open all day now.
It's funny how things bother us till we figure them out, then they're not so important any more.

I may have told this before: in my early days of flying for the Weather service, we had a radio altimeter on board to measure our exact altitude for cloud level reporting. At one Commander's call the Colonel fussed at us about using that rig over land in America. Seems it would open garages doors. Who know and of course no one tried it(:>). I hear it was neato to see garage doors opening at night below...

Try wrapping aluminum foil around the remote, just leave the front open so the signal go's out. Early on I zapped 3 or 4 laser thermometers. Wrapped the new ones and never had a problem since. G.M.
