Default Speedometer is off

On our station wagon, I downloaded an app for my cell phone to check the speedometer. As I suspected, it read fast. With a speedometer reading of 75. The app said 56, which is clearly based on GPS data and reliable. Later in the day I came upon a stationary speed awareness sign that again pointed out my speedometer was reading fast.

My Dad rebuilt it several years ago, but that is about all that has changed. Any thoughts on correction?

How's the odometer? If it is incorrect, then the speedo gear might also be incorrect.

Depending on the manufacturer it can be adjusted if the odometer is reading good.

I think the odometer reads incorrectly too, but I have to check that to be sure.

I'm of no help. Mine is just the opposite. At 40 mine reads 45 and at 50 its saying 57.
As long as I know I'm not worried about it.

Remove it and send it to a professional who will calibrate it properly.

Check the odometer before you send it to someone to calibrate. If the odometer is off the "calibration" may consist of getting the correct gear to attach to the torque tube.
