Default Where does the sway bar attach to?

I have a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe that was partially dissembled when I bought it. I am piecing it back together and can’t seem to find a good book with schematics or detailed pictures to reassemble things like the sway bar, rear and front fenders.

Someone has previously removed the link-piece that originally attached the bar to the PERCH pin going downward through the axle...which he has now adapted as a lower mount for that NON-stock tubular shock. DD

As mentioned, the axle pins have been truncated for tube shocks. You should have something like the enclosed pictures. To use the factory sway bar you will need to replace the pins. This is easier said than done. Those pins can be virtually welded to the axle due to rust and corrosion. You best bet would be to install an after-market sway bar and leave the pins alone. Check with Chassis Engineering.

Hope this helps.

A word of caution..
The bar you are referring to is not a "sway bar" it is a body roll stabilizer bar that is attached to the axle as shown in the pix that "flatheadfan" attached..
Starting in '42 Ford utilized a roll bar and a sway bar, two completely different systems.
Many people confuse the two systems, referring to either/or both, as being sway bars.

Your car has the longer type spring (backward leaning shackles) and the long type shackles. This MUST be used with either the ford type stabiliser bar which DOES act like a panhard rod, or a panhard rod. I don't know where you would attach such a device though.

An aftermarket anti roll bar, would resist the rolling action of the body in turns but would not resist sideways action.

The original ford stabiliser bar (I choose my words carefully) served two purposes.. It resisted roll, like an anti roll bar, but balso resisted side to side movement.

That said, it was somewhat compromised in sideways movement resistance, which ford seemed to realise, because they themselves superseded the combo stabiliser bar with a panhard rod proper from 41 on.

flatheadfan, thank you for the picture. Now that I see what it supposed to look like I think I can start to correct it.

The stabilizer bar according to parts catalogs looks like a 42?

Here are some pics of a complete front stabilizer set up for a 41 Ford car.
The flat side of the inward rubber dampers mounts to the bottom of the frame rail just ahead of the front cross member. The open space of the elongated u face back towards the axle.
The bar it self attaches to the axle with shackle studs the ends of which you can still see to the corresponding bracket on the axle perch.
As was mentioned prior, your spring perches look to have been cut off and as was also mentioned was the fact that getting the old ones out can be a PITA but not an impossible job.
They do not reproduce the 41 spring perches but they do come up for sale on various auction site as well as our own classifieds.
If you buy a set make sure that the threads on the shaft that goes thru the axle are not buggered up as this is a common occurance.
42 may be different as I believe the front axles got wider. Not positive on that though.
Hope this helped.
Torchie.
