Default Timing with a B distributer

What should I set my "Starting" timing at with a "B" centrif advance distributer installed in my Banger A?

At 2000 rpm what should my total advance be? I installed a degree wheel like newer cars have to read the timing.

I am using a 6-1 Winfield head and if I remember correctly I set my B dist at 5 degrees advanced. Total advance then is 20 degrees.

For anyone trying to time a centrifugally advanced B Distributor on an A engine, and using the conventional method of timing by inserting the front timing pin in the recess in the timing gear, first:

1. Do you know if your timing cover is a Model A timing cover which was designed for use with a manual advanced A distributor? or,

2. Do you know if your timing cover is a different, Model B timing cover which was designed for use with a centrifugal advanced B distributor?

3. What type of head is on one's A engine?

Once one's timing cover is identified as either an A timing cover or a B timing cover, (e.g., differences are indicated Mr. Vince Falter's "Model A Ford Garage"), one can continue to become informed on how to time one's engine using one's timing pin.
