Default 1939 ford pickup

I am new here and this is my first post. I would like to share my 1939 project. Came from Canada but i bought it local here Long Island NY. Motor wouldnt budge so we replaced it with another flathead. Should be running in a few weeks. Trying to keep everything somewhat original. I plan on rebuilding original motor (one day). Any hoot heres some photo. Its only allowing me to upload 1 for now.
Thanks John

Welcome to the Ford Barn. Here you will find most of the answers to the inevitable trail of challenges and questions you are on.

For now, just get it running and stopping. That will probably keep you busy for a while, but it is highly motivating for more detailed restoration tasks.

Welcome aboard from a fellow barrel nose owner. Judging by the gas tank under the seat your truck is either a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Nice thing about '39's is that they were the first year of hydraulic brakes. As far as freeing up the original engine try a 50/50 mixture of ATF and acetone. Time is your friend when it comes to freeing up a stuck engine.
Don't know where you are in NY but a good source of parts is Joe's Antique Auto in Uxbridge, MA

Welcome to the FORD Barn , nice patina . The 38 and 39 s satin the Busses for years , they said they were ugly . Now they are getting a lot of attention . I restored my 39 s mechanics and left the patina . Yours is either 3 4 or 1 ton . Enjoy .

John,
Wonderful looking truck you have. Sounds like you are right into it it you have gone through the brakes already.
Welcome to the Ford Barn! Great folks here! They accepted me as a newbie 6 months ago. I have had loads of fun and met new friends.
Your plan to drive and stop sounds about right to me. The truck looks complete as far as sheet metal from this view. Hope to be seeing more of it in the future.
Your engine issues sound very similar. I have two 90 year old engines. Keep your expectations low but keep hitting at it.
Regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris still trying to download photos. Was able to ad my avatar! My buddy is doing most of the work. I am the helper. Had cap a radiator (local shop) redo my gas tank and copper radiator. New seats new tires on original split rims. Then I will slowly get to everything else while I enjoy driving. She is replacing my 56 panel truck.

Thanks for the photo. Dash confirms '39. Split rims says 1 ton not 3/4 ton. Keep the photos coming.

Photos indicate crusty but overall pretty complete. It's so good to get a complete vehicle. A Canadian model should be relatively close to the US model but there will likely be a few differences. Most of us have certainly seen a lot more trucks that are in much worse condition. Time and previous owners are not always kind to old trucks.

After you have more than 10-posts, you will be able to do more on the site. Welcome on. There are plenty of old truck lovers on here to help when needed.

Great pictures and welcome John. Your camera and tape measure will be your best friends when taking apart and re-installing things together. Scott

Hi Everyone. John you have got a real gem on your hands! So many good parts still attached under the hood. Few add-on's to wrestle off!

You didn't ask but I'll offer anyway; Plot strategy on your charming but not-helpful windshield well in advance of the actual refit. I've heard they are an excuse to break out all a feller's colorful words!

What is that tube with a cap by generator in engine pic? Any idea of your rear end gearing?

That is the tube is the oil fill. No idea about what size rear.

Isn't that how the Coe trucks were? I had a 39 truck the same color as yours. It didn't have that tube but who knows if engines are original.

It's one of these chingaderos. It's a C11A-6520 manifold, and was available only on Canadian-built engines. The second picture shows the bare manifold. DD
