Default Reds headers & Brockman exhaust

Hi guys

39 coupe

I am planning to replace my 35+ year old dual exhaust system. My plan is to order everything (minus the muffler) headers to tailpipe from Reds.

The Brockman muffler I’m looking to purchase is the steel pack 17 body 24 overall.

Anyone use this setup? If yes, are you able to carry on a conversation at highway speed?

Just to comment as I am sure the sound is similar. I installed Red's headers and pipes along with Smithy's glass packs. To me the sound is just perfect. Highway speed sound is OK.

My ‘41 has a Reds setup with porter mufflers (made in China) round chrome pipes stick out about 2 inches past rear bumper, not loud at all, nice flathead burble at idle.

The Steelpack Brockman's will be louder at the tailpipe than the other mentioned mufflers.
I have used Brockman glasspacks on several flathead powered cars & I love them, slightly less loud than steelpacks.
Interior noise not a problem as long as the pipes are tight & go to the rear bumper.

Great choice, I have Reds headers and steel pack mufflers , not sure of the manufacturer but they are 15 inches long and love the sound. I don't know how to post a video on our site, have several that will give you an idea on sound. Highway speed is just fine for sound too.

Porter Mufflers "made in China"???????? Their website says American made and I have them on two cars--both '36 lb engines but different cams and totally different sound.

I'm running the Reds out to a set of Smithy's..Lovem

The challenge is the clearance up and over the rear axle, make sure your pipe bender gives you some good clearance as things get pretty tight.

The Drake rear swaybar/shock kit made a big difference for my application on my 39 peeekup. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

That's what I used in the '40. Red's headers & exhaust pipes to the mufflers. I had to use 12" mellow tone mufflers from Van Pelt, as they were the only length that would fit in the X-member area. Red's wasn't bending tailpipes at the time or I would have used theirs as everything fit great. The tailpipes were mandrel bent by Tubular Automotive in Weymouth MA. They did an awesome job, and I still have the light gauge test pair they bent to use as a template to bend the heavier gauge finish ones. That rig turned out to be real snappy out the business end of the pipes.

I went with the longer Brockmans and had the pipes bent by a local shop. I’m using dual manifolds, not headers but I haven’t got the car done so I haven’t heard it...... Mark

I'm using Red's headers on my 8ba with very cheap 24" weld on mufflers off auction site and love the sound. Right now exhaust ends just in front of rear end. I'll eventually run on out the back.
