The 1952 Big Jobs generally had the truck designation on the engine valve covers. The F8 had the 155 HP 317 Cargo King engine which differed from the Lincoln car engine by having solid tappet cam followers instead of the hydraulics like the Lincoln cars had. The F7 engine was the 145 HP 279 Cargo King which was also a solid tappet engine. Visually, it's hard to tell them apart when they don't have the valve cover markings on them.

One of these Big Jobs could certainly have a 317 Lincoln car engine since there isn't a lot of difference.

Our town had a Fire Engine F-8 1949 with the 337 Engine and a 5 speed tranny. It was a Pumper 1st line piece for a number of years. When I got on it was a back up to our E 1.. I liked it and no one else did because of the problems trying to shift the old square cut gears. I never had a problem and hardly ever used the clutch except when starting to roll it. Could do it in my sleep as I was used to it. Lots of history about it including one of the officers died on the way to a call! Sad story and a great guy and neighbor.

nice rig ! in the 70's i worked for an oil company that had an old 40's tanker from mpls airport. it too was like new, low miles etc. place was shut down when the epa got in there, and somebody must have gotten a nice truck at the auction
