new shaft in old style reverse idler ???
the old style reverse idler uses a pin that is drilled in from the end to oil it.
the new style idler has a hole through the gear to oil it. i have a good gear but bad idler pin. the new style idler pin is the only one available ( as far as i know). is there a supplier for the old style pin? or is there a way to use the new style pin with the old style gear and have proper oiling? thanks ou tom |

Re: new shaft in old style reverse idler ???
The reverse idler gear is about the least expensive and seemingly common. Why not just replace both?

Re: new shaft in old style reverse idler ???
There has been a bit of inflation since I looked. Maybe buying used would solve the problem. The reverse idler gets little real use, so other than the bushing on some, many are in good shape.

Re: new shaft in old style reverse idler ???
i have three so far and all are the old style gears and all are in good shape.
i was thinking of cutting a vertical slot on each end of the gear. with a real thin cutoff disc then round off the edges of the slot so it wouldn't wear the case. that would allow oil to the ends of the bushing but i dont know if it would seep into the inner surfaces. the thing is that gear runs all the time, if it only turned while in reverse it would live that gear converts to almost $200cnd by the time i get it, just trying to save a bit of cash. even if it wrecks the case i have 3 more cases. how is Snyders to deal with and their quality? thanks ou tom Last edited by old ugly; 08-23-2021 at 11:39 AM. |

Bert's might have a good used gear of the newer design, but I think your's will be fine, especially with the slots you mentioned making in the gear.
