Try comparing the new to the old. Look for a difference in where the hole is for the main pivot. That would be a start. there was a thread on here recently where the holes were incorrectly positioned in some recently available replacement shoes. Other than that, t may be that the new linings are thicker than original in anticipation that the drums are already significantly oversize. Don't try and force anything. Try a loose shoe inside a drum and see how the radius of the shoe matches (or not) the drum.

Have a look and see if you can deduce where the problem lies.

Mart.

For what it's worth: Stock OEM 40 brake shoe linings were .18 in. thick.

Well guys I followed your advice and Mart you was spot on,they are different from the originals, the thickness of the new linings are about the same as the old,( I,m changing them because they are old and the linings have gone hard) I guess the answer is to get new linings on the old shoes about the same thickness,I was told I could try to get the new shoes to fit by grinding a small bit off the end that goes into the piston which would pull the top part in a shade ....it's my Birthday today so a day off from the workshop ...many thanks for your help Jim.
