Windshield Stanchion loose?
Help! I noticed the other day that my driver's side windshield stanchion is loose and can't seem to find out how to tighten it back down. It moves about 1/2" when I rock it from the top end. I pulled the kick panel and looked in there, but found nothing to tighten up....what am I missing or am I just blind? Looked for a drawing and can't seem to find where the main mount bolt is....tightened up my add-on rearview mirror, but didn't seem to help much. Thanks for any advice or for leading me in the right direction.

Re: Windshield Stanchion loose?
You might have to do a search of the Model A forum threads about this. Just a few weeks ago or so someone had some excellent photos of the sub structure for these. They were repairing some roadster type cowl posts and needed the same info.

Re: Windshield Stanchion loose?
The two countersunk screws on the side of the stanchion pass through the small portion of the cowl assembly to a forged part that is tapped for both screws. Are they tight? If so, the cowel structure may have fractured at that point. I can send photos if needed as I'm all apart still on my 29RPU which has the same assembly. Your problem is much higher than you have been looking.

Re: Windshield Stanchion loose?
Rowdy's photo is great as to showing the forged piece I spoke of. When you wiggle the stanchion, does it wobble on it's base, or is the base also moving?

Re: Windshield Stanchion loose?
Feels like the whole thing moves slightly....that's why I was trying to get an iddea where the "base" of the thing mounts. The holes showing on Rowdy's photo.....where are those located? (the holes thru the backing plate on the right side of the photo). I can't seem to get a perspective on the photo angle....

Re: Windshield Stanchion loose?
If you remove the stantion, and dash rail you will find this plate with threaded holes. This is what the screws on the outside of the stantion bolt to. Hard to see with it all assembled. Rotate the pic counterclockwise and it may become more clear, this is the right side and the tank at this point was removed also. Might take some visialization with it all assemebled. Rod

Re: Windshield Stanchion loose?
In Rowdy's photo the stanchion mount is laying on its side rotate the picture 90% to the left. It is now straight up and you are looking at the right side from inside the car. I can't really tell from your pics, but it looks like you have chrome stantions. If they are plated or painted for that matter they may not have one of the 2 mounting screws. The mirror screws into one hole in place of the original screw, and there should another screw within a few inches of it. It seems in your response, you may have a stanchion with only one drilled. Post a photo of your stanchion.
