I installed a "leakless" water pump on my '30 Coupe. It has less than two hours running time on it and leaks from a weep hole located on the mounting flange.
Anyone else experience this? |

if I remember correctly one of the water pump mounting stud holes in the head is drilled all the way through the casting. Is water weeping around that stud? If so I've
seen people use RTV or gasket sealer on the threads to help seal them up. |

I bought the pump from mac's about a year ago. I tried to call them but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired...
I was curious enough to press it apart. The bearings are all sealed and it has a mechanical seal that is spring loaded. I believe the problem is the seal allows coolant to to get around the seal flange and drain from the weep hole. I'll end up eating this and buying a quality part. Thanks for the help. |

You should be able to repair that pump now that you see what it needs.

It must be one of these with sealed bearings
https://www.macsautoparts.com/1928-2...-845453-1.html Must have a weep hole to protect the sealed bearings. "The front and rear grease fittings are for show only. The bearings are the sealed type that will provide many years and miles of trouble-free driving. The seals are made from material far superior to the original as well." |

It doesn't take a lot of ability to graft one of those seals into a Model A water pump - can't be - I've done it.

I recently bought a new water pump from Snyder's. I compared it to the one purchased from mac's. The quality of the Snyder's pump was far superior to the Chinese pump.
Installed on car and no problems at all. I have another (expensive) paper weight and conversation piece. Thanks again for all of the help. |

updraught, I need to itemize the bad parts and go back and do a group review...
I found out about them at a high price. I found a seasoned restorer and he put me onto Snyder's Antique auto parts. I have had great service and good quality parts. They are online. |
