Recently purchased a 1937 78 fordor. There is a bypass hose running from where the sender unit is on the passenger side to the lower radiator hose. Does anyone know of a reason why this was done this way? Why not just cap it off. As I understand it, the 37s only had one sender unit anyway. Thanks.

My guess is there was at one time a hot water heater installed in your vehicle. Either it (heater) was removed or if it began to leak, someone took the shortest route to "rig" it.

Originally there was no sending unit on the passenger side, ONLY the driver side.
It appears you have incorrect cylinder heads, possibly truck from a later year.
