oil filter cannister ?s
I am wondering if Ford ever offred an oil filter cannister for the 8BAs that had the drain petcock? I have one off of a 59AB that has the drain, but have never seen one with a drain on an 8BA. Does anyone know why Ford would have stopped putting in the drains? It's much easier to change the filter during servicing with the drain than without. Could a 59AB filter cannister be modified to fit an 8BA? Also I have been debating buying either a hildebrandt, Bee hive or perhaps an NOS Fram filter cannister that will mount to my firewall, so I can show off my aluminum heads better. What can I use for the oil lines into the stock passages in the 8BA block? I know I have to have the resrictor, but what can I use that will be flexible enough to not crack with engine vibration, if the filter is mounted remotely from the engine?
Thanks Matt

Re: oil filter cannister ?s
don't know why a canister from a 59 couldn't work on an 8BA....have to put the pressure sender down on block, unless you add the set-up from an 8BA canister and put it on the 59 one...i think that will work.....Mike

I haven't seen an 8BA filter with a drain. Added my own in the same location of the earlier filters.

I'm not 100 percent on this, but I think Mercurys had the little drain. Also they changed the way the 8CM mercury filter mounts. The old filter almost always cracked
so the new one is lower and is held by three head bolts, it takes the same filter, fram C4. |

Re: oil filter cannister ?s
After the vehicle is at rest for some time, most of the oil in the filter housing drains back down into the oil pan. Only a small amount is left over in the bottom of the housing. I always clean the housing out on a filter change to keep the dreaded sludge from builing up in there. If you have ever had to clean the sludge out of one of these you'll know where I'm coming from.

Re: oil filter cannister ?s
Thanks for the baster tip. I always clean out my cannister with a rag to absorb the residual oil, the baster will definitly make it easier to clean out the cannister.
Thanks again, Matt
