Default Removing hubcaps

Hi gents (I searched the forum but could not find this subject)

Is there a good way to remove hubcaps? I have three lugs on one rear wheel that spin and I am going to try to pull the wheel. I need to remove the hubcap while the wheel is on the car.

Any tips or tricks without damaging the hubcap or the wheel paint too much?

Thanks,

JackD

Never mind! I tried the first one and it popped off in a second with only one little nick in wheel.

Duh

Thanks anyway

It would be a great thing if someone markets Model A hubcaps that are removable like the 1932 - 1935 hubcaps are. My guess is such hubcaps would sell really well.

Someone makes a tool for the '30-'31 hub caps that makes them removable. I have not used one, but it looks interesting.

Mike's sells them. http://www.mikes-afordable.com/product/T1130.html A little expensive but I have saved a lot of hub caps so it has basically paid for itself. Makes the caps fit tight, no need for rubber bands and silicon.

And it's another tool you can buy for your tool box...

Thing is you don't need to remove a Model A hub cap as often as a '32-35. The lug nuts are assessable without removing the hub cap on a Model A, where as you have to remove the hub cap to remove '32-35 lug nuts.

It's a form for bending the tabs so the cap snaps into the wheel. It works with the 10 tab cap, The instructions say to bend 5 of them, I use all 10 seems to be tighter. It takes a little time, but no chipping paint, loose caps, rubber bands, string, glue and I haven't had a loose or lost cap in 8 years.

I have this tool and use it for all of my hubcaps. It works well on the hubcaps with 10 tabs. I've never lost a hubcap using this tool. I bought mine from Mike's years ago.
