Default What color to paint repro Winfield 7:1 head?

I recently bought one of Tod's Winfield 7:1 crowfoot heads. The original Winfields came with a fire-engine red paint job, but maybe that's not the best idea. What color should I paint it? Vote in the poll above!

Update: this is a cast-iron head

Is it a iron or aluminum? If its aluminum polish it, iron paint it Chevy orange with a base coat of white, white because it'll make the orange pop!

If it's iron I'd paint it the same color as the block. If it's aluminum I'd leave it raw.

Bright red, that was the original on his 7:1 heads, thus the name "red head". It won't look like a stock head, so why paint it Ford green? The Winfield 6:1 was painted yellow, truck heads green, etc. They were painted at the factory so when shipped, the right one was shipped.

Red because you almost always get 10 more horsepower if the head is red.

All the engines I have attached to my dyno with red heads have produced at least 10 HP more than a stock engine. A few much more!

Just saying! What Jim B. says makes sense to me also.

Good Day!

If I do go with red, I guess I'll use this

When I was running a Lion head 20 years ago, I painted it red and liked that look.

Will eventually put the Brumfield head that came with it back on our Town Sedan.

Getting more eccentric with age, I might paint it apple green to match the wheels.....

Nice looking engine. Is that a vacuum advance canister hanging on the side of your distributor?

Benson & Ruth
The distributor is from a 1979 Honda Civic. I had to machined the bottom of the body slightly to fit into the head. The shaft was then cut to length and the tab machined on the end. I use the vacuum unit from a 1980 Honda distributor. There was way too much advance so I welded up the slot so all my advance was from 10° to 28° btdc.
I time it for 10° advanced at idle. I also limited the travel on the vacuum unit to retard the spark about 5° under a heavy load.
You could also do this with a 1980 distributor which has an electronic module.
I got the idea for this from CORLEY, you might want to scan his posts on distributors.
